Cavity Wall Insulation
Had this guy knock on to tell me I’m entitled to free cavity wall insulation, I told him nothings for free but he informed me that I pay for it through my heating bills. All seemed a bit suspect but I’ve got a surveyor coming tomorrow and now wonder if I’m doing the right thing,
Not usually a gullible person but does sound a bit iffy.

About 10 years ago I had the walls and loft done for free. I was sceptical at first but it was real. Nice result as it turned out.

Probably some green tax used to make places more environmentally friendly

Kidders

I had this done to my house, probably over 25 years ago. When there definitely was a Government Scheme which paid for a large proportion of the cost.(Think I paid about £120) I don't know what schemes are available today. But it should be easy to check that out.
Mine is a modest 3 bedroom semi with an attached garage, so really in some respects, it was already part insulated.
My heating bills are, I believe relatively low, despite having a really large loft which is part boarded, reasonably well insulated and quite full of junk.

The thing that I noticed after having cavity insulation is that there is more condensation on the windows. I think this has become worse as the double glazing has aged. And it might just be that the glazing is now not up to much.(it certainly isn't to the latest spec). However, I have read that if you insulate the walls on buildings they may not "breath" and consequently more warm moist air hits my cold inefficient windows thus condensation.

Things to consider

1. The authenticity of the Scheme (What happens if you switch energy supplier?)
2. Age and State of Glazing
3. Loft insulation

Hope this helps

I’ve had it done Kidders, some geezer knocked on the door and I thought it was a scam.

Did some research and it was a legit govt. scheme.

Those nasty Tories eh?

Re: Cavity Wall Insulation
Also consider how old your house is, and I think it is only properly "free" if you or someone in your house is on certain benefits.

On rare occasions WHO is not the best or only source of reliable information.

P.S. I would never buy anything so important from someone who knocked on my door, at the very least without getting alternative quotes and professional advice first. Your knocker is clearly on commission and will tell you anything to get the work.

Syd - You don’t buy it. It’s free.

Seeing as though you love facts, the then Warm Front scheme was introduced as a Labour scheme in 2000 and remodelled - and reduced in scope - following the coalition Comprehensive Sending Review in 2013.

Nope, As I said, just reduced it as they responded manfully to the global crash brought about single headedly by Gordan Brown.
